Yamasaka Kichibei known as Yamakichibei worked as a katsushi of the famous Shogun Oda Nobunaga and worked in Momoyama era. It is also known that the shodai Yamakichibei and the shodai Hoan were students of the shodai Nobuiye. His tsuba have been greatly loved by collectors and imitated by many tsuba makers. The genuine Yamakichibei is extremely rare and it exhibits great surface hammering and tetsu-mi with tetkotsu in ji and mimi. The first two generations are regarded as the best pieces. This tsuba seems to be attributed by the Shodai Yamakichibei, Katana size, and accompanies the NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon paper. Kakumimi koniku, 84.3cm X 83.4cm with 4.3-4.7mm thickness.
