This Gendaito is made by Taguchi Kiichi. It is signed as "Hizen Kuni Masatsugu" and made in August, 1941. Masatsugu was born in July, 1904 and learned swordmaking from his father, Taguchi Ichitaro. He also studied under Kurihara Akihide and won many awards including the Gold Metal at the 5th Nihonto Denrankai. He worked as a Rikugun Jumei Tosho from 1941 to 1945. He is listed in Gendai Toko Meikan, pp.145 and John slough's book, pp.106-107. He was rated as the 1 million yen smith at Toko Taikan. |
This blade has the nagasa of 65.5cm and sori of 1.9cm. Blade has a graceful sugata with no nick or flaw but slight stains, which just needs cleaning.
