Komiya Shiro (Shodai Komiya Kunimitsu) was a decendent of the famous swordsmith, Shinano kami Fujiwara Hisahiro and he learned swordmaking from Sonoda Tsumoru. He started swordmaking in 1934 and managed Chikushi Gunto Tanren Branch in 1943. He made many swords for dedication and won a number of awards. |

Mei:
Chikushi Shiro Kunimitsu Saku
He is so-called as the "Saijo Saku of Showa Era". His sons (Kuniyasu, Kuniharu) are swordsmiths and three sons of Kuniharu are also all swordsmiths (Kunitada, Yasumitsu, and Nidai Kunimitsu). Also, the current Mukansa So Tsutomu is one of his lineage. There is an interesting story that he made a big sword, "Tenjin Tsukihoshi Maru" to pray the rain at drought in Kyshu, 1939 (and it really worked!). He established the famous Muto School. This blade is well balanced and polished even though a finish polishing will bring out its beauty by removing some scratches and scuffs. Very rare Katana of Komiya Shiro Kunimitsu! |
